30 highly interactive sessions are conducted over approximately 45 – 50 days. The highlight of these sessions is that they not only prepare you for the TOEFL® iBT, they also give you the confidence to communicate better in everyday life. The breakup of these 30 classes is as follows:

  • The first 3 classes focus on Basic language and accent skills, similar sounding words (homophones) and on common idioms and phrases. In these classes familiarity with the various American accents will be developed in addition to a focus on language use.
  • For the Reading Comprehension section 6 classes will be conducted. As is the case with all T.I.M.E. courses, we will start with the basics, move to practice exercises and end with practice tests. All types of questions that you are likely to see in the TOEFL ® iBT such as “identify the most suitable heading for the given passage” or meanings of words, or pronoun references, will be covered in these classes.
  • To train you for the Listening section of the TOEFL® iBT, we have 6 classes, all of which will be conducted with the aid of (Audio) CDs.
  • Speaking is perhaps the section that most students are wary of. We have 8 classes over which we will prepare you for this section. There are a total of six speaking tasks on the TOEFL® iBT and we have one class dedicated for the understanding and practice of each of these tasks. The last two classes are revisions or mini tests. Each student will have the opportunity to speak in class and will get feedback from a specially trained faculty. Audio CDs are used in class for most of these sessions.
  • We have 7 classes dedicated to the writing section of the TOEFL® iBT. We will start form the basics of writing, have one class on functional grammar and 5 classes for the two tasks that you will encounter in the TOEFL® iBT. In these classes, you will actually write essays in class and will receive feedback on your performance from specially trained faculty. Specially developed audio CDs aid the faculty in some of these classes.

About the TOEFL iBT® Test?

The TOEFL iBT® test, delivered via the Internet, is an important part of your journey to study in an English-speaking country. In addition to the test, the ETS TOEFL® Program provides tools and guides to help you prepare for the test and improve your English-language skills.

Who Takes the TOEFL® Test?

The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. And it evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks.

Where Can I Get Local, In-language Support?

Where and When Can I Take the TOEFL iBT Test?

The TOEFL test has more test dates (over 50 per year) and locations than any other English-language test in the world. You can retake the test as many times as you wish, but you cannot take it more than once in a 12-day period. If you already have a test appointment, you cannot register for another test date that is within 12 days of your existing appointment.

This retake policy will be enforced even if a violation is not immediately identified (for example, inconsistent registration information).

•If the violation is identified after registration but before the test date, your test appointment will be canceled and your test fee will not be refunded.

•If the violation is not identified until after your scores have been reported, your scores will be canceled. You and any score recipients will be notified by a cancellation letter, and your test fee will not be refunded.

What Does the TOEFL iBT Test Cost?

The cost of the test varies between countries. For information on registration, fees, test dates and locations, select your test location.

TOEFL iBT® Test Content

The TOEFL iBT® test is given in English and administered via the Internet. There are four sections (listening, reading, speaking, and writing) which take a total of about four and a half hours to complete, including check-in.

Combining All Four Skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing

•During the test, you are asked to perform tasks that combine more than one skill, such as:

•Read, listen and then speak in response to a question

•Listen and then speak in response to a question

•Read, listen and then write in response to a question

TOEFL iBT Test Sections

The test you take may include extra questions in the Reading or Listening section that do not count toward your score. These are either questions that enable ETS to make test scores comparable across administrations or new questions that help ETS determine how such questions function under actual testing conditions.

Please read the timing instructions for the Reading Section carefully. The instructions will indicate how many passages you will receive and the amount of time you have to respond to questions for those passages. Be sure to pace yourself so that you have time to answer all the questions.

A standard English language (QWERTY) computer keyboard is used for the test. We recommend that you practice typing on a QWERTY keyboard before taking the test.

Native-speaker English Accents

The Listening and Speaking sections of the TOEFL iBT test include other
native-speaker English accents in addition to accents from North America. You may hear accents from the U.K., New Zealand or Australia.

ETS added these accents to better reflect the variety of native English accents you may encounter while studying abroad.

In the Speaking section, only items 1 and 2 of the six tasks may have accented speech. Below are two examples similar to what you might hear. The speakers are from Great Britain. In each instance, the example is 15 seconds long, and you would have 45 seconds to respond.
